GIZ in China joins the Greater Bay Area Intelligent Vehicle Eco-Partnership (GIVE)

In January 2018, China’s top economic planner, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), set out ambitious targets for the development of Intelligent and Connected Vehicles (ICV) in its Draft Strategy for Innovation and Development of Intelligent Vehicles. Amongst others, the Chinese government aims for intelligent vehicles to account for 50% of all new cars sold in the country by 2020. To contribute to the realization of these goals, the Shenzhen Municipal Government together with China EV100 and the Green and Low-Carbon Development Foundation (GDF) launched the Greater Bay Area Intelligent Vehicle Eco-Partnership (GIVE) during the Global Intelligent Vehicle Summit on 20. June 2018 in Shenzhen.

The objective of this high-level platform is to accelerate the formation of the ICV industry ecosystem in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), which encompasses Hong Kong, Macau as well as the province of Guangdong. The GBA not only features a combined GDP of $1.3 trillion (which surpasses that of Australia) but also benefits greatly from the innovative environment surrounding China’s technology hub, Shenzhen. In this context and through the joint expertise of more than 100 members from business and academia, the GIVE platform seeks to promote the process of standardization and legislation for China’s ICV industry through sound policy support.

Drawing on its long-standing experience in supporting the sustainable transformation of the transport sector in China, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is pleased to announce it has been selected as a member of this highly influential platform. Going forward, GIZ in China now partners with major industry forces and leading institutions such as Tesla, BYD, Bosch (China), Huawei and the University of California Davis in supporting the Chinese authorities regarding its policy-making on the future of mobility. As a first step, the partners of GIVE will closely monitor and potentially actively assist the construction of the first qualified autonomous driving testing site in Shenzhen. GIZ in China is greatly looking forward to contributing to fruitful discussions amongst GIVE members by leveraging its global expertise and experience across the entire transport sector.
