Green Logistics – Study Tour on City Logistics & Drop & Pull in Germany

China’s increased urbanization and blooming development of E-Commerce has caused an increasing demand for consumer goods and better efficiency of distribution and transport. On the one hand more and more logistics volumes burden the city traffic, and on the other hand serious traffic situations like congestion can hinder the efficiency of transport and distribution.  Inefficient logistics systems damage the environment and climate. How to organize the distribution and transport effectively has already become a challenge for the government as well as for logistics companies.

Under the framework of the GIZ project “Green Logistics”, a study tour on “City Logistics & Drop & Pull” has been organized jointly with Shenzhen Logistics & Supply Chain Management Association from September 9th to September 20th 2014 in Germany. The aim of the study tour was to increase the ability of the participants to transfer their newly gained knowledge to their working places afterwards.

The delegation consisting of 12 attendees, who are logistics entrepreneurs and operation executives from well-known Chinese logistics enterprises, visited the Logistics Park Bremen and Logistics Park Ingolstadt as well as several German logistics enterprises, which are specialized at the areas of general cargo, contract logistics & warehousing, supply chain management etc.

During the short introductory and technical excursions, German logistics experts showed their Chinese counterparts their strategies and practical experience on Drop & Pull, multi-modal transport, distribution of E-Commerce as well as organization of a logistics enterprises alliance. The study tour was highly evaluated by both, the Chinese delegation and the German logistics enterprises and experts. At the end of study tour, they expressed their wishes to keep in touch and find another opportunities for cooperation and knowledge exchange in the future.
