During the second Sino-German governmental consultations that took place in Beijing on 30 August 2012, a new Sino-German cooperation on fuel efficiency was signed.
In the Memorandum of Understanding the German Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMU) and the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) agreed to cooperate in the support of fuel-efficient vehicles. Inter alia, a dialogue series will be created in order to foster an intensive exchange between the two Ministries in this area. The bilateral dialogue will affect the strategies of both countries concerning the climate-friendly and resource-conserving development of the automotive sector, particularly via vehicle efficiency or CO2 emission standards. These standards are among the most effective instruments of climate protection in the transport sector. The mutual cooperation will be implemented in the coming years by the GIZ project in China commissioned by BMU.
