“In transport, we need a broad and integrated set of instruments, integrated urban and transport planning, reliable public transport systems, transport demand management, infrastructure for walking and cycling and smart linkages between those. Here ITS can help to link different transport modes and make transport more convenient and attractive for the passenger.”
Mr. Jochen Künzel, Deputy Consulate from German Consulate General in Guangzhou set the frame for the Sino-German ITS Technical Exchange and Development Forum where renowned German and Chinese experts shared their experiences in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and discussed the way forward for both countries. The forum took place during the 9th China Intelligent Transportation Annual Conference on November 13th in Guangzhou.
Dr. Veit Steinle, Director General of the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, delivered the keynote address on the first day during the plenary session. His opening speech emphasised the importance of both countries to generate synergies by cooperating in the field of Intelligent Transport Systems.
Mr. Daniel Bongardt (Sustainable Transport Programme Director, GIZ China) and Mr. Li Bing (Director, China National ITS Center) gave an overview on how ITS can be effectively utilised to solve the challenges of urban transportation systems in Germany and China. Both speakers highlighted that ITS is an effective tool to manage existing vehicle traffic in a way that reduces congestion and at the same time increases the quality and attractiveness of public transport through improved intermodal trip planning, passenger information and operational management.
Moreover, speakers from Bosch, Siemens, Daimler, Guangdong Department of Transport and Tsinghua University presented case studies in the field of electro/mobility, traffic and parking management and an overview of ITS development in China.
The forum was jointly organised by Guangdong Ministry of Transport and GIZ under the Sino-German Climate Change Programme.
