ESIE 2020: Energy storage in Germany and implications for China

On August 28, the Sino-German Energy Partnership launched its latest report on energy storage. The study “Energy Storage in Germany – Present Developments and Applicability in China” provides insights into the dynamic energy storage market in Germany, its business models, regulatory framework, and technical standards, and discusses implications for China. The study was published at the 2020 edition of the Energy Storage International Conference and Expo (ESIE) hosted by the China Energy Storage Alliance (CNESA). The study was written by Wolfgang Eichhammer, Lin Zheng and Marian Klobasa of Fraunhofer ISI and supported by Cheng Chenlu and Wang Yating from the China Electric Power Planning and Engineering Institute (EPPEI). Approx. 100 Chinese industry experts and researchers attended the report launch, which had to be pre-recorded due to the ongoing health crisis and travel restrictions. Furthermore, Valeska Gottke of the German Energy Storage Systems Association (BVES) presented insights of the German energy storage systems industry at ESIE. Energy storage has been a focal topic of the Sino-German Energy Partnership since 2019.

Sino-German Energy Partnership

The Sino-German Energy Partnership links three levels of action: high-level policy dialogue, business-to-government exchange and an exchange of experiences on technical and regulatory solutions that promote the energy transition. The main aim of the partnership is to foster and advance the far-reaching and profound energy transitions ongoing in both China and Germany by exchanging views, best practices and knowledge on the development of a sustainable energy system, primarily centered on improving energy efficiency and expanding the use of renewable energy.
